How Often Should You Rotate Your Tires?

How often should you rotate your tires? We hear this question frequently at Underriner Motors, and in general, we recommend a tire rotation interval of once every 5,000 to 7,500 miles. Though this rule of thumb is a good place to start, when to rotate tires can vary based on the recommendations of your owner’s manual and your driving habits. Learn how many miles to rotate tires with our service team below!

Rotating Tires on FWD and RWD Vehicles

If your vehicle is a front-wheel or rear-wheel drive, that’s simply an indication of where your engine sends the power. For a front-wheel drive car, the power goes through the front wheels, and the opposite is true for a rear-wheel drive car. The set of tires that receives the bulk of the power will wear faster than the others. Take a look at how many miles to rotate tires and other information for your FWD or RWD model:

  • How often should you rotate your tires for a FWD or RWD model? The standard recommendation of a tire rotation once every 5,000 to 7,500 miles fits.
  • If you’re taking on a FWD tire rotation in your own Bozeman garage, be sure to flip sides when moving the rear tires. So, the right rear tire will go to the front left, while the left rear tire will go to the front right. When you move the tires to the back, you’ll keep them on the same sides.
  • Flip the process above for a RWD car. So, flip sides when moving the front tires to the back and keep them on the same side when putting them up front.
  • If you enjoy frequent off-roading out past Laurel, you’ll likely need to visit us for more routine tire rotations. Heavy-duty use can cause undue stress on your vehicle’s components.

AWD Tire Rotation Tips

Curious when to rotate tires for an AWD model? Since these vehicles work slightly differently than others, their tires will experience unique wear and tear. Most auto experts agree that a tire rotation once every3,000 to 5,000 miles is appropriate for AWD models. If you’re unsure when you had your last tire rotation, schedule an appointment with our team. We can quickly perform an inspection and see if you’re due for service.
